CEO Test

When looking to fill a CEO position, it's important to make sure that the candidate has the skills necessary to do the job. A CEO skills test can help ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the position.

  • What is a CEO skills test?

CEO stands for Chief Executive Officer. The CEO is in charge of the company they run and all the people that are part of that company.

The CEO skills test ensures the high-level experience you need for this role is properly assessed by probing essential CEO skills such as leadership, communication, problem solving, critical thinking and strategic decision making.

The test is multiple-choice, and will place candidates in hypothetical situations to gain a better understanding of how they’d react to everyday challenges, and whether their responses align with the values and morals of the company they’d be leading.

Select the assessments that match the skills or behaviours for the position. You can test for software or coding competency, soft skills like teamwork, or personality traits, to be sure those who pass have high potential.

  • Reduce costs and time.

No more laborious sifting of resumes or cover letters. Pick your ideal assessment mix, invite your applicants to take them, see the results in your dashboard. Get to the interview stage fast.

  • Eliminate bias.

All your candidates take the assessments on a level playing field. Only their results determine whether they get shortlisted.

  • What are the benefits of using the CEO skills test for pre-screening?

The CEO skills test will bolster the recruitment process and can save time and money by acting as an effective pre-screening device.

Setting the test at the beginning of the process means you only have to meet with candidates who have excelled at the test and proven themselves to have the characteristics and traits you’re looking for.

With a greater focus on diversity and inclusion than ever before, many companies are making the smart decision to introduce skills tests into the recruitment process to help rid their processes of bias. Setting the same test and making decisions based purely on results sets a level playing field and gives all interested parties an opportunity.

The CEO skills test uses multiple-choice, situational judgement style questions to examine whether an individual is able to think on their feet, solve problems, inspire and motivate, manage a business, handle pressure, balance multiple priorities and work for the good of the people and company they’re leading.

If a candidate has excelled on the test, it’s a good indicator that they have what it takes to be a strong CEO for the company you’re hiring for.

You can also use their individual results as a means of tailoring your interview questions later down the line, particularly if they have any strengths or weaknesses you want to know more about.

The CEO skills test could also be used as a recruitment tool for the following roles:

How our test measures CEO skills

Test questions are designed to assess industry-specific technical skills, soft skills, aptitude and suitable personality dimensions. Our data-driven approach provides results that enable you to determine how suited is a candidate for the role.

Depending on the type of question, the format of the test may vary. Multiple-choice questions are used to measure aptitude, technical skills and soft skills, while agreement on a Likert scale assesses suitable personality dimensions. Skills tests ensure that candidates are being evaluated in a precise and impartial manner, their results demonstrating the true knowledge and potential of each test taker.

The characteristics required to be a CEO were determined by looking at the skills and abilities listed in the US Department of Labor’s O*NET database, which collects data from professionals in various fields.

O*NET is the largest database of its kind, providing detailed information about occupations and the requirements for each role.

Our team of I/O psychologists and psychometrics worked closely with subject-matter experts to create an extensive question bank that can be used to test multiple candidates. We also conducted rigorous field testing with a representative sample of candidates to ensure that the questions were reliable and valid.

Test scores are averaged together to give an overall score. The average score is compared to other candidates' scores to ensure there is no bias toward certain candidates.

Our CEO test is constantly updated and optimized to ensure the best experience and results.

CEO Test FAQs

What are the key skills of a CEO?

Good CEOs are team players who can also work well autonomously. They must be able to lead and inspire, to motivate their workforce, and to juggle multiple conflicting priorities. They also need to show they can keep calm under pressure, solve problems and make difficult decisions if need be.

How much work experience is required of a CEO?

This is very dependent on the particular role, and scale of the company they would be managing. Typically, a CEO would have a degree and then multiple years’ management experience.

Can I see what the test is like?

Are these tests available in my plan?

We have a range of plans available. The difference between the plans is the number of test attempts permitted, not the type of tests. All our plans include our full test suite comprising all tests and all levels.
