Social Worker Test

When looking to fill a social worker position, it's important to make sure that the candidate has the skills necessary to do the job. A social worker skills test can help ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the position.

  • What is a social worker skills test?

A social worker skills test helps you test for the skills required to be a social worker. It can be used as an effective pre-screening device, helping to save time and money in the long run.

Social workers help to protect vulnerable children and adults. They support people to cope with the challenges they’re facing, and try to ensure their charges are kept safe and free from harm.

Being a good social worker involves having a wide variety of different skills including an effective communication style, empathy, the ability to problem solve and a good knowledge and understanding of the systems we live and work within.

These skills can be hard to test for, but the social worker skills test is designed to do just that. Targeted questions seek to understand how equipped an individual is to deal with the everyday demands of social work, and whether they have the necessary skills and experience to do the job.

  • What are the benefits of using the social worker skills test for pre-screening?

Pre-screening is becoming more and more important as recruiters and employers seek to streamline hiring processes and ensure they’re only meeting with candidates who have proven experience and skills.

The social worker skills test should be utilized upfront so you can compare candidates like for like. Not only will this help you to make smarter decisions on who you meet with and what questions you ask, it also helps to remove unintentional bias from the process as you'll be basing your selections purely on results.

The social worker skills test is designed specifically to assess the wide variety of skills and experience social workers need to succeed at the job. Not only does it cover foundational knowledge like the legal system, policies and safeguarding, it will also examine the characteristics needed to excel at the role; characteristics such as empathy, compassion and communication.

As the test is timed, it also gives you a good opportunity to see who copes well under pressure - another key skill required in the field of social work.

The social worker skills test can also be used to recruit for the following, similar, roles:

    • Child protection officer
    • Family support worker
    • Counselor
    • Social and community service manager
    • Psychiatrist

How our test measures social worker skills

Test questions are designed to assess industry-specific technical skills, soft skills, aptitude and suitable personality dimensions. Our data-driven approach provides results that enable you to determine how suited is a candidate for the role.

Depending on the type of question, the format of the test may vary. Multiple-choice questions are used to measure aptitude, technical skills and soft skills, while agreement on a Likert scale assesses suitable personality dimensions. Skills tests ensure that candidates are being evaluated in a precise and impartial manner, their results demonstrating the true knowledge and potential of each test taker.

The characteristics required to be a social worker were determined by looking at the skills and abilities listed in the US Department of Labor’s O*NET database, which collects data from professionals in various fields.

O*NET is the largest database of its kind, providing detailed information about occupations and the requirements for each role.

Our team of I/O psychologists and psychometrics worked closely with subject-matter experts to create an extensive question bank that can be used to test multiple candidates. We also conducted rigorous field testing with a representative sample of candidates to ensure that the questions were reliable and valid.

Test scores are averaged together to give an overall score. The average score is compared to other candidates' scores to ensure there is no bias toward certain candidates.

Our social worker test is constantly updated and optimized to ensure the best experience and results.

Can I use this test to assess soft skills?

A lot of social work, from communication and teamwork to time management and problem solving, would be considered ‘soft skills’. The social worker skills test contains questions that examine all of these skills, and more.

Are these tests available in my plan?
