Teacher Test

When looking to fill a teacher role, it's important to make sure that the candidate has the skills necessary to do the job. A teacher skills test can help ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the position.

  • What is a teacher skills test?

A teacher skills test is used to test the range of skills needed to be a teacher within the hiring process. Teachers work in a variety of settings with different children and adults, but within all of these, they have a lot of responsibility and require many skills. A few of the essential skills of teaching include critical thinking, adaptability and interpersonal skills.

The teacher skills test is a multiple-choice test that can be used during the recruitment process to identify strong candidates who should progress through to the next round and complete a teaching interview.

The test is a clear way of determining the strongest candidate and who has the essential skills to become a teacher.

The teacher skills test could also be used in the hiring process for the following roles:

  • What are the benefits of using the teacher skills test for pre-screening?

A teacher can be very influential in someone’s life, introducing them to a new topic they are interested in or being the person in their life that they can trust and talk to. Teachers spend all of their time with people and must have the sufficient skills to be able to handle the situations that come up. By using the teacher skills test it is easy to identify who has these skills.

The teacher skills test removes all bias from the hiring process as personal information is not included. This helps to identify the best candidate without considering age, gender or background.

The tests can save a company a lot of money as a large group of applicants can take the tests at home without requiring office space or current employees giving up their time to interview.

The teacher skills test identifies the crucial skills of a teacher such as planning, decision making and communication. In addition to generic skills, teachers can be tested on specific subjects such as numerical reasoning for a maths teacher or a specific language for a language teacher.

How our test measures teacher skills

Test questions are designed to assess industry-specific technical skills, soft skills, aptitude and suitable personality dimensions. Our data-driven approach provides results that enable you to determine how suited is a candidate for the role.

Depending on the type of question, the format of the test may vary. Multiple-choice questions are used to measure aptitude, technical skills and soft skills, while agreement on a Likert scale assesses suitable personality dimensions. Skills tests ensure that candidates are being evaluated in a precise and impartial manner, their results demonstrating the true knowledge and potential of each test taker.

The characteristics required to be a teacher were determined by looking at the skills and abilities listed in the US Department of Labor’s O*NET database, which collects data from professionals in various fields.

O*NET is the largest database of its kind, providing detailed information about occupations and the requirements for each role.

Our team of I/O psychologists and psychometrics worked closely with subject-matter experts to create an extensive question bank that can be used to test multiple candidates. We also conducted rigorous field testing with a representative sample of candidates to ensure that the questions were reliable and valid.

Test scores are averaged together to give an overall score. The average score is compared to other candidates' scores to ensure there is no bias toward certain candidates.

Our teacher test is constantly updated and optimized to ensure the best experience and results.
